My 21st Century Classroom

This I Believe Video
My Classroom
  • My school is Located in a Suburban area in Raleigh, North Carolina.  It is an Elementary school containing several different racial and ethnic backgrounds such as Caucasian, African-American, Asian-American, and Latin-American.
  • Special needs students are given additional help from:
  1. Learning Support-Math, Reading, and Writing
  2. Indivualized Education Program (IEP)
  3. After School Services/Tutoring Programs
  4. In my classroom: Students with special needs are given help from a School Aide and additional learning may be done on MAC Book's or Additional informative Books from the Book Shelf on the desired subject matter.
  • Classroom Organization: As you can see, my 21st Century Classroom contains:
  1. Television (For Morning Announcements and for Informative Films shown in class)
  2. Computer Carts (For classroom work, notes, and Research)
  3. Book Shelf (Also for Classroom Work and Research)
  4. Projector Screen (For Class Lectures)
  5. SmartBoard (Also for Class Lectures)
  • Integrations
  1. Edline- Edline is where my lesson plans, worksheets, handouts, study guides and homework is.  Edline is an online student portfolio that will help my students become organized and responsible.  This is also where grades are posted.  Students will always know what we are doing in class thanks to Edline.
  2. Students will have their own personal folders/files on their MAC Books for class work, class worksheets, homework, and study guides.
  3. Students and parents are open to interact with myself regarding any questions, comments, or concerns that they have about class through my email or through Edline.  On the first day of each school year I have a "Tech Period" in which I personally help my students set up their Edline account & their own personal Gmail account.  Having a Gmail account will allow us as a classroom to explore a wide variety of technological innovations that will assist students in projects for my classroom and in classes that they will take in the future.
  4. At the end of every semester, I have designed a "Skype Period" in which the classroom will be involved in an interaction between any handful of College Professors that I have been close with since my years of school.  These Professors are Historians in the content areas that we will be studying in the semester and this is a very interesting class period that myself and the students look forward to every semester!
  5. Students will be involved in group projects in which they collaborate through blogs and online articles.  There are many valuable online resources in which students will learn a great deal about the subject content that I will be teaching in class.
  • Theodore has a little trouble with geography, but is improving thanks to the Skype Learning Lab that I have found for him to use during free time in class.  I could tell right away how much more engaged he is in my class and I have been extremely proud of the effort that he has put toward my class.  Theodore is a great kid.
  • I have also showed the class a few History Game websites in which they seem to like.  This gets the classroom engaged in hands-on-learning.  They have a lot of fun with it.

Self Reflection
I have gained a lot of knowledge about technology throughout this class and I am proud of myself for making this blog project.  The risk that I took was to think independantly and when making this project, I tried to make and design this blog post a little more differently than I thought anyone elses would be.  I hope that my blog is as unique as I think it is.  I have learned and developed a lot throughout this semester, and I think this project helped me piece all that I have learned this semester together. This was a very fun experience & I would deffinately give blogging and video/graphic designing another chance!
